PERTH Perth
What can we say about our hometown? It must have the best beaches in the world for the cities with greater than one million population and is one of the cleanest cities that I've come across.
The port of Fremantle has its historic architecture (if you count less than 200 years as historic!) and is a vibrant multicultural playground with a large Italian influence. Hotels, cafes and restaurants line its streets and the place has a great vibe to it.

The beautiful Swan River winds its way through the hills and suburbs and opens to a wide expanse that has the central city sitting on its bank. The extraordinary vista can be taken in from the hillside viewing deck at Kings Park which itself is a wonderful if botanical experience.
I could go on all day but you really need to see it for yourself.

BUNBURY (185km from Perth) The South West
The city of Bunbury has its shipping port and shopping areas that befit a town of 25,000 population along with a lovely restaurant/cappuccino strip.
Friendly dolphins and picturesque lookouts can make for a unique experience.

BUSSELTON (229km from Perth) The South West
Gateway to the wine producing region and once again offering beaches and picnic areas aplenty.
Famous for its mile long jetty and abundance of accommodation.
A good place to base your southwest travels around, as many lovely small towns are only a short drive away.

MARGARET RIVER (277km from Perth) The South West
Famous for producing the finest wines in WA and home to one of the world's most famous surfing beaches.
A mecca for those who have tired of city life and opted for the rural retreat - creating an interesting mix of alternative lifestylers, well to do city escapees with all the restaurant and shopping accoutrements you would expect.
Close to Jarrah and Karri forests with Caves House and Yalingup worth a visit.

and local history.

ESPERANCE (721km fom Perth) Esperence
On the Great Southern ocean and featuring some of the world's most beautiful snow white beaches.
The Pink Lake, coastal drive and Frenchman's Peak (mountain with a tunnel through the tip) compliment the interesting coastline.
Camping on Woody Island and diving around the numerous stone islands for the more adventurous.

CERVANTES (245km from Perth)
Pinnacles Dessert - Nambung National Park
(17km South of Cervantes)
A spectacular area famous for its white and yellow painted desserts and for the hundreds of wind-carved limestone pinnacles ranging from less than a metre to over three metres high. Formed 25 to 30 thousand years ago from the deposits of shell left behind when the sea receded, time, erosion and the winds have combined to form such formations as the "Indian Chief", "Garden Wall", "Milk Bottles" and many others. When seen against their background of golden sand, it is reminiscent of a field of ancient ruins.

KALBARRI (589km from Perth) The Mid West
440 km north of Perth and surely Gods own country. Spectacular coastal and inland gorges with the Murchison River providing a great aquatic playground.
Good fishing and swimming - pretty much all year around and all the better if you hire a boat.
Horseriding, hiking, scenic flights and camping - its got just about everything.

SHARK BAY (750km from Perth) The Gascoyne
With Nanga on the way in offering a quiet sleepy little fishing resort with an artesian hot spa to relax in and Denham at the end of the road offering good fishing and more relaxing, you hardly need the dolphins at Monkey Mia to spice things up.
I'd certainly recommend them though and the resort of Monkey Mia has lovely lawns and beaches to lounge on whilst you wait for the smiling dolphins to come in and greet you.

CORAL BAY (1,170km) The Gasgoyne
A family favourite of ours with beautiful protected beaches surrounding a marine sanctuary that is teeming with tropical fish.
The kids can enjoy underwater cruises past the coral and fish life and the snorkelling and scuba diving is first rate.
Whale watching, whale sharks, manta ray watching and great fishing make up what only can be described as on of the worlds great aquatic playgrounds.

EXMOUTH (1,288km from Perth) The Gasgoyne
Most of the above applies to Exmouth that is 130km north of Coral Bay with the added attractions of the diving with whale sharks and the Harold E Holt naval communications base that was part of the cold war nuclear strategy.
Once again, plenty of beaches and fish.

KARRATHA/DAMPIER (1,620km from Perth) The Pilbara
Aboriginal history abounds up here and the landscape is a strange one of split red sandstone rocks that look as if they have been dumped by mysterious lunar tip trucks.
Big natural gas and salt processing plants.
Offshore offers great fishing and many interesting islands.
Photo: Python Pool, East of Karratha, a lovely spot to visit for a refreshing swim.
THE KIMBERLEY
BROOME (2,512km from Perth) The Kimberleys
'Just beautiful' is the way most people describe this pearl of the Indian Ocean where the red dirt of the lower Kimberley meet the white sands of Roebuck Bay.
A rich history of Japanese, Chinese and Malay pearling ventures together with World War Two experiences make this a fascinating place to explore.
Hovercraft rides, dinosaur footprints seaplane wrecks and stunning sunsets over the spectacular Cable Beach make this a place that will live in your heart.
HALLS CREEK (683km from Broome)
Western Australia's first gold rush took place about 19km from present day Halls Creek. Mud brick ruins of the old settlement can still be seen.
China Wall (located 1km off Duncan Road)
On the way to old Halls Creek is a sub-vertical quartz vein which projects above the surrounding landscape to form a natural white stone wall, appearing like the remnants of a miniature 'Great Wall of China'. The 'China Wall' is believed to be part of the longest single fault of its type in the world.
